This lovely color is on our GOTS Certified 100% Organic Fine Merino Wool, Sport Weight base.  It has 3 plies and 6 wpi.  There are approximately 330 yards per skein.  This gorgeous base has a micron count of 21.5, which means it’s just a bit more fabulously soft than most other merino yarns!  (A lower micron number means a finer fiber.  Merino Wool is one of the finest, next to our Lambswool bases, and can measure anywhere from 15 to 25 microns.  Other wool varies in micron, this depends on the breed, health and age of the sheep.)

Merino Wool is great for knitting pieces which will provide warmth, without being too hot.  It also has moisture wicking qualities which will keep your piece dry to the touch.  Merino Wool is also hypoallergenic, which is beneficial for allergy and asthma suffers.

Merino Wool is a 100% natural and renewable sustainable resource.  It is also biodegradable, organic and environmentally friendly.

Merino Wool is more expensive than other wool yarns because it is a finer grade wool.  It is softer, smoother and more durable than other wools.  Naturally hand dyed, Merino Wool will also be more expensive because of the extra labor involved.  Go ahead and treat yourself, you won’t regret it!

Wonderful projects for our Merino Wool would be hats, mittens, scarves, children’s garments and home accessories.  The possibilities are honestly endless!

A few fun facts about why we chose this name (two of us ahem, Chris and Beau, thought this name was too long for a color way, but I thought it was perfect, so since we aren’t a democracy here, obviously I won out 😉)

Among Sea Glass Connoisseurs it is said that the colors pink and purple, “are the pastel darlings.”

(My personal favorite is light blue.) Most purple sea glass is referred to as “sun” purple, because prior to the 1930’s manganese was used when making glass, to decolorize any of the impurities present in clear glass.  When pieces of this glass are then exposed to the rays of the sun, it turns to them various shades of light purple.  Purple Sea Glass is normally found on the beaches in Northern California and in the Caribbean.  Do you have any pieces of jewelry with purple sea glass?  Please let me know if you do, I would be fascinated to see a photo of it.

We suggest using a US 3 -5 Knitting Needle and a size E Crochet Hook.  (This is only a suggestion, everyone’s tension varies, please use what is the most comfortable for you!)

All of Sand Castles and Sea Shells Yarns are certified mulesing free.

This base MUST BE hand washed after your piece is finished, using a PH Balanced Soap such as Mrs Myers, because it will felt.  It should than be laid flat to dry.
