Aqua Blue Chalcedony Gemstones on Sterling Silver French Hook Earrings (Pear Briolette Cut)

Our lovely, Aqua Blue Chalcedony Gemstones set on Sterling Silver French Hooks, are the perfect summer statement, which will pair very nicely with many of our Sea Glass Pendants.

This unusual Pear Briolette cut was designed by Lodewyk van Bercken, a Belgian Jeweler, in 1476. This cut requires a more advanced technique than round cuts, making Gemstones cut in a Pear Briolette style, very rare and quite expensive. This particular cut is mostly used for stones with color, such as Sapphires and some varieties of Quartz. This style of cutting was made popular during the Victorian Era and has remained so today. 

Chalcedony is a term used to describe a particular variety of Quartz, where the crystals are very small and are very tightly packed together. Chalcedony is considered to be microcrystalline, meaning its individual crystals are too small to be seen without magnification, unlike larger Quartz crystals, such as an Amethyst. Chalcedony is both a microcrystalline and a crypto crystalline Quartz, which means that it may range in color from semitransparent to opaque. Simply put, Chalcedony is a type of Quartz that is formed not from only one single crystal, but from a number of finely grained microcrystals.

We purchase only AAA Graded Chalcedony, which is the highest quality. Chalcedony that is Graded AAA displays excellent color, clarity, and displays minimal inclusions. We use only the highest quality materials, to ensure that your piece will last for many, many years!
